FairPhone 2

Dutch Startup FairPhone, after celebrating the grand success of its first smartphone has jumped onto the next version which is FairPhone 2. FairPhone 2 was released earlier this week and is already gaining good response as per the company till now 324 new smartphones have been shipped.

With that Fairphone has also unveiled a new range of 3D printed accessories to accompany its phones. These accessories have been designed by Alan Nyugen and fits easily with the smartphone as a Nightstand and Amplifier. Both of them are 3D printed on an Ultimaker 3D printer from Colorfabb’s woodfill filament. This even sets a record to get listed among the first phone accessories to be developed from wood effect filament.

FairPhone 2 smartphone also gives a lot of variety to its users after selling 60,000+ models of the previous version it was a challenging task for the company to bring out an even advanced version. That too being a completely independent financed firm. FairPhone 2 runs on Android 5.1 lollipop version and is backed with Snapdragon 801 processor. The most important thing is that it’s the first modular smartphone on the market, which is designed for repairability and reusability. You can easily gather its spare parts from their shops and customize it.

Fairphone 2 accessories are available to purchase via 3D printing network 3D Hubs and are available to order even if you don’t have a 3D printer readily available. Here’s what the company has to say.

To help kick off the launch of the Fairphone 2, we’ve teamed up with Fairphone to introduce a new collection of 3D printable accessories for Fairphone owners. These accessories will add additional functionality and style to your Fairphone 2. Instead of being mass-produced like most other smartphone accessories, these accessories are 3D printed on demand, preventing both unnecessary transport and overproduction. Even better, the designs are printed using a unique material made from recycled wood fibers and bioplastic PLA.

Designed by professional industrial designer Alan Nguyen and printed using woodFill 3D printing filament, the Fairphone 2 Nightstand is the ideal charging and resting spot for your device during twilight hours. The Amplifier is the ideal and portable solution for users who are looking for more amplified sound experiences.
